During my afternoon shift, I listen to Dr. Laura because I am bored to death with music. About a week ago, a mom called in asking for advice on how to not hate her child. According to this lady, she never wanted her son and he has done nothing but stop her from succeeding in her career and other relationships. I was so angry that I had to turn the radio off and pull over. It's not right that people don't cherish their children like the precious gifts that they are. James and I would give anything to be parents to a child and have to change our careers or relationships to provide a loving home for them. We can't wait for the day when we can't have game night because our child will be sleeping or we won't be able to go see a movie because we can't find a sitter. There are so many "inconveniences" that we would love to have!
I am not going to quietly stand by when ignorant people blame their children for their crummy lives.

How true!!! I needed to be reminded of the blessing though. Thanks. Sometimes it's easy to get overwhelmed and wonder if it's going to get easier. I would never trade Alaura for anything, but somedays I want to pull out my hair...Thanks for the kick in the pants :) You guys are going to be great parents, and the day will come that you want to pull out your hair too...lol
I couldn't agree more!!! Ryan works for Fresno PD and I can't even listen to stories of the things he sees. It makes me sick. :(
To answer your question, my counselor isn't LDS, but she is christian based. I have only been twice, but it's nice just knowing there's an outlet to vent everything to and I am hoping over time it will make a difference. We'll see, I guess! :)
It's true...lots of unfit people are parents...try not to let that stuff get you worked up. It'll never go away. One day you guys will have children in your home, and you will be awesome parents! That's the best you can do.
I remember that frustration when I was undergoing fertility treatment. All parents need to be reminded of their blessings. Not that I ever wish away my kids, but I need to appreciate all aspects of parenthood. You might even need to print out this post for yourself someday!
