Adoption?

Over the past few years, adoption has crossed our minds numerous times. Obviously, we haven't looked into it. Last Saturday, after the Priesthood session, the first thing James said to me was "what do you think when I say adoption?" He has been feeling very impressed to look into adoption. He has explained to me that he feels we make too much money not to have a kid (not that we make a ton of money, but we know that a children won't cause us any financial strain). So I think we might start the paperwork as we continue with the infertility treatments. This is a very overwhelming thought for both of us. We have no idea where to even start. Does anyone have any experience with adoption or know anyone who has gone through it?

Our friend and his wife in Utah just adopted a baby boy last August through LDS Social Services. I can talk to them and see if they can tell you their experience and what they had to do. Let me know and I'll give you their email address. I'll send them an email in the meantime.

My co-worker is going through it right now...I don't know if Cali is the same as Indiana, but they had to take 12 weeks of classes (both of you) and TONS of paperwork...that's how far they've come so far! lol!

I have a friend that has adopted a little boy and is in the process of getting another baby. She is on my sidebar. Candace Kennington. I also know another girl Rachel Dewoody that recently adopted a baby. Their story is pretty cool. 2 weeks after their paperwork was done they got picked and took a baby home. The Dewoodys' are in Sanger ward of our Stake the Kenningtons are in the Clovis 7th ward. Both of them have gone through it recently and I believe they both went through LDS social services. Let me know if you want me to help contact them or give them your contact info. They are both SUPER good people! I'm sure they'd love to talk to you!!!

Tami Halvorson's cousin's future daughter-in-law works for an agency that does international and local adoption and foster-adopt. I'm sure Tami could get you in touch with her. The people I know who have used LDS FS have had great experiences. I'm pretty sure the Sampsons used them.

We adopted our baby, Ethan. Our process was a bit different than usual because he was family, but we still had to jump through all of the hoops to make it legal. We had to do the home study, and all the millions of pages of paperwork. We got him when he was 7 weeks old. He's now 18 months and we just barely finished all of our court dates. We're happily waiting for his new birth certificate to come. It's been a great experience, and I wouldn't change any of it! Adopted or not, he IS our baby, and a great addition to our family! You should call me.
